Case Study: The National Lottery

The challenge: A national gaming company wanted to temporarily bolster its product management capability with an interim product lead for 18 months to manage new and enhanced functionality on its app and website.

What we did: Working across multiple projects, we managed both on and near shore scrum teams to integrate a new SaaS inapp marketing and service messaging platform (RichInbox), new payment system (Worldpay), player protection mechanism (Gamstop) and upgraded account functionality.

How we did it: Working with the senior executive team, we prioritised key projects taking into account the company’s growth strategy and understanding the broader context of each project. Each project involved understanding and defining the existing and new end-to-end customer experience, baselining analytics, creating mock-ups for user testing and defining the proposed architecture against the current system. All projects had to be considered in the light of regulations imposed by the Gambling Commission for protecting vulnerable players.

What this enabled: Improved mobile experience and increase in app usage from new communications platform and mobile payments option. The implementation of new journeys which could be seamlessly used by all players whilst protecting the needs of vulnerable players with nudges, warnings and prompts.

What’s next: The inhouse product team maintained and iterated the products as part of its BAU function.
